This off-season we caught up with recently crowned 2021 Enduro World Series Champion Jack Moir to see what he has been up to!
What have you been up to in the off-season in preparation for the upcoming season?
I had surgery when I got home, so had some time off after that, and then have just been doing a lot of rehab and training, trying to get ready for the season. My shoulder has been taking a lot longer than I hoped for. Not the ideal offseason, but it's how it goes sometimes.
What does a typical day at home look like for you?
Pretty boring at the moment, I wake up and go to the gym or for a road ride, come home and cook a feed, do some editing for Moi Moi TV, have another snack and then head out for an afternoon training session, then come home, have dinner, stretch and go to bed.
How did you get into mountain biking and racing?
I got into mountain biking through my big brother and his mates. They used to ride every weekend and I thought it looked cool, so Dad got me a bike and I was frothin. I always wanted to get faster and better, so I guess racing was just the next step.
What gets you going/prepared and focused before a race?
I normally just make sure all my shit is organised, chill out, and listen to some tunes before a big race.
What bikes are you riding right now?
My favourite bike on the home trails in Aus is the Canyon spectral, thing is so snappy. When it gets a bit rougher and gnarlier I'm on the Strive. I use the stitched for sprints at the bmx track. When I wanna bust out a bunch of laps and save my legs I run the Spectral on, and for downhill I have the sender.
Who or what inspires you?
I got a lot of inspiration from Sam and Rennie and all the other Aussies downhillers growing up, and from some of my favorite surfers and Moto Riders.
What do you enjoy doing away from bikes?
My favourite thing to do away from bikes is surfing. I've always grown up at the beach and it's a great reset for My mind after a long year of racing. I also enjoy camping with friends, and riding Motorbikes.
What do you do to rest and recover after a race?
Nothing too serious. I just park it up, bit of stretching, bit of rolling, eat well, maybe a spin. I have an ice bath at home which comes in handy after training but that's a bit hard to have on the road while racing.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to do their first EWS?
Make sure you have done the training so you are prepared for a big day. If you are coming from Aus, get used to riding mud, and some more steep/technical stuff.
What’s your favourite Albek Product?
My favourite Albek product is the new Skytrail 51 Duffel. It's just easy to load my stuff in when heading to the track or for a gym session!
